At WAAY UP Inc., we are dedicated to empowering youth through the transformative power of the arts. Our mission is to provide a safe space for creative expression and personal growth, helping young individuals realize their full potential.
WAAY UP Inc. (Working Arts Accomplishing Your Unlimited Potential) is a nonprofit youth arts organization founded by Marlyn Johnson, a passionate educator and advocate for creative healing. After the tragic loss of her only son, D’re “Drizzy Dredelaine” Johnson, to gun violence in 2022, she launched WAAY UP to continue his legacy through programs that uplift and protect today’s youth.
To provide access to music training, performing arts, visual arts, film, and mentorship—helping youth, ages 6-18, discover their voice, develop life skills, and create brighter futures.
A world where youth rise above adversity, express themselves safely, and lead the next generation of artists, entrepreneurs, and peacemakers.
WAAY UP’s flagship summer experience includes:
The SouthSide Soul Youth Empowerment Program is a powerhouse of creative transformation, using music as a tool for healing and growth. Led by Coach Jimmy, SouthSide Soul provides studio-based mentorship, songwriting workshops, and live performance training. Their Young & Gifted All-Star Camp empowers youth to turn their pain into purpose through powerful group songs, daily affirmations, and artist challenges. The SouthSide Soul’s mission mirrors WAAY UP’s belief that “one song can change a life.”
HWPL Georgia brings a global mission of peace into local classrooms and communities. This organization equips youth and educators with practical tools to resolve conflict, promote human rights, and live as peace advocates. Through curriculum partnerships and creative collaborations, HWPL works with WAAY UP to embed peace education into our arts programming—ensuring our youth not only create, but create for a cause.
Founded by fashion designer and creative visionary Smiley Jonez, Burning Guitars Clothing is more than a brand—it’s a movement of bold expression and spiritual storytelling through style. After nearly two decades in the industry, Smiley authored “The 48 Laws of Fashion”, a guide to fashion’s deeper meaning and power. As a WAAY UP partner, Burning Guitars inspires students to explore design, styling, and runway presentation—culminating in our annual Youth Fashion Show. Smiley teaches students how to use fashion to tell their story, heal their hearts, and walk in purpose.
